School Involvement
Each year, our local Catholic schools partner with the Food Resource Center to help thousands of families and individuals to meet their basic nutritional needs.
You and your school can get involved in a variety of ways:
- Holding food, baby item, or personal hygiene item drives
- Collecting paper and/or plastic bags
- Sponsoring a toy drive at Christmas
- Holding a coin collection
- Volunteering your time
If you are interested in working with us, please call Caroline at 629 231-2828 x102.
Thanksgiving Food Distribution
On Tuesday, November 22, we provided 120 families, representing 618 people with food for an entire Thanksgiving meal. Families working with out Emergency Services, Clinical Services, Family Services, Pregnancy and Adoption Services, Employment Cae Management Services, Refugee Services, and Senior Residential Services participated.
Fresh produce donations from the San Diego Catholic Worker allowed us to include items such as apples, oranges, potatoes, celery and onions. Trader Joe's contributed paper and plastic bags, and our local Catholic schools and parishes generously donated canned and dry food items.
These items included vegetables, stuffing, cranberry sauce, pumpkin, yams, and jell-o. To complete the meal, a variety of donors provided us with fresh or frozen turkeys or grocery store gift certificates that enabled families to purchase one.
The day was made possible through the hard work of the Emergency Services staff and our very dedicated volunteers and we would like you to know that we are thankful for YOU!
Catholic Charities Christmas Store

Catholic Charities sponsored its Christmas Store on December 20th and December 21st. 120 families had the opportunity to shop for toys and gifts for their 239 children. Families who are working with staff from various departments within the agency participated.
Staff and over 130 volunteers worked to assist families with shopping and wrapping and doing crafts with kids. Overall, more than 2,300 gifts were selected by participating parents! A special thank you goes out to all of our hard working volunteers. We couldn't have done it without you!
