Parents as Teachers

Our Mission

To establish relationships with parents and provide them with support and child development knowledge that will maximize their parenting abilities and foster the optimal development of their children.

Parents as Teachers is a nation-wide, evidence-based curriculum which operates under the philosophy that parents are the first and best teachers for their children. Under a grant through the First 5 Commission of San Diego, the Catholic Charities PAT Program offers services to families with children ages 0-5, with a special interest in refugee and immigrant families, participants of CalWORKS, and low-income families.

• Developmental screenings for each enrolled child
• Monthly parent-child group meetings
• School readiness kits for each child entering kindergarten
• Resources and referrals

Our staff includes bilingual and bicultural trained parent educators. They provide services to help clients develop effective parenting skills, as well as to promote early learning and pre-literacy in their children. The visits include active participation by the parent and child, and are specifically tailored to meet each client's needs and goals.
