To work toward mercy and justice, to enhance the quality of life of every client and to advocate for a just society. In the Emergency Assistance Program, we achieve that mission by supporting people who are experiencing a temporary hardship with a combination of case management and direct services, including food, clothing, transportation and shelter.
Clients
Low-income working families, individuals and homeless persons in North San Diego County.
Services
Short-term case management, referrals and direct services, including food, clothing, transportation and shelter. Special services provided through the San Diego County Cold Weather Shelter Program, the FEMA Rent and Mortgage and FEMA and SDG&E Utility Assistance Programs.
Food Assistance
- Emergency Food Assistance is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Eligibility is based on income requirements.
- First time clients must bring their Driver's License or Social Security Card, identification for other household members (social security cards, medical/dental cards, immunization records, or birth certificates), and proof of residence (rental agreement or utility bill).
- Eligible participants will be given the opportunity to select food from a "menu" that lists items that are currently available. Staple items include tuna, corn, green beans, soup, crackers, peanut butter, etc.
- Emergency Food Assistance Program (EF AP) Commodities are given to clients who are facing a temporary hardship a maximum of three times a year.
SDG&E Utility Assistance
Households that have a past due SDG&E bill may be eligible to receive assistance through the Neighbor to Neighbor Program. To qualify for assistance clients must have a pink past due bill and be experiencing a temporary hardship. Clients who are on the CARE program maybe referred to CUI in San Marcos. Eligible clients may have to make a co-payment up to half of their current past due amount. If you would like to sign up for the CARE program, which saves you 20% on your bill, please contact our office for more information.
Rent Assistance
- Currently, there are no rent assistance funds available.
Food Donations
We are currently in need of the following items:
- Canned meat (spam, chicken, chili,etc)
- Tuna
- Canned green beans and corn
- Canned fruit
- Canned soup
- Crackers
- Macaroni 'n' Cheese
- Rice
- Pinto Beans
- Top Ramen soup
- Cereal or breakfast foods
- Baby food
- Formula
- Diapers (all sizes)
- We also accept monetary donations and grocery store giftcards.
Volunteers
Volunteers stock, bag, and re-shelf canned foods and non-perishable items, as well as interview and assess client's emergency situation. There are two events during the year in which we need many volunteers to help out with various tasks. These events are the Annual Postal Food Drive in May and the Christmas Store in December.
